CoServ Turns to Earthworks Boundary Microphones for Executive Boardroom

Texas-based Audiovisual Systems Integrator Dominant Sight and Sound Selects Earthworks IMBL30-B for Premium Audio Video Conferencing Installation

Milford, NH – When CoServ Electric was looking to upgrade their boardroom at their Corinth, Texas headquarters, they turned to Dominant Sight and Sound to design and install the system.

Clear sound, a minimal footprint, and simple controls were key requirements in the new AV system installation.

With those client requirements in mind, Rusty Bailey, Project Manager at Dominant Sight and Sound, selected the Earthworks IMBL30-B microphone for the install. There were three main factors that led to the selection of the IMBL30-B: the look, size and pickup pattern.

The Earthworks IMBL30-B microphones were installed in CoServ Electric’s executive boardroom, which is where their VoIP calls are made from. In this room, there is a horseshoe shaped conference table with 4 Earthworks IMBL30-B microphones on both sides, as well as 2 IMBL30-B microphones at the end of the table, for total of 10 microphones.

Bailey selected the IMBL30-B boundary microphones featuring the LumiComm Touch Ring for the installation, allowing him to program the microphones with an RTI control system. “One of the main benefits of the IMBL30-B is that you can easily see the mic status from the LED ring,” explains Bailey.

In addition to the RTI control system, the 10 IMBL30-B microphones were used in conjunction with a Symetrix Radius AEC for DSP, Just Add Power 2G+ Transmitter and Receiver for the 18 screen video wall, and a K-Array KP102 Line-array Speaker.

Another key benefit Bailey found for this installation is the performance of the IMBL30-B microphones. “The even frequency response around the mic make mixing for both local reinforcement and VOIP very minimal. These mics are very sensitive and provide a clean signal to the board,” explains Bailey. “I don't need to EQ them other than rolling off the low end some.

Beyond improved sound quality, Bailey also notes the tech support he received from Earthworks. “One of the main challenges with this installation was getting the 5V logic to work, but you guys provided amazing tech support to remedy the issues.”

Bailey notes the client’s reaction, who was pleased with the IMBL30-B microphones. “They love the look and functionality of the mics.”

Bailey offered his final thoughts on his experience with Earthworks microphones for this installation. “The clarity is incredible. When I can plug a mic in and it sounds good with little or no processing I am extremely happy.”
